The Muon Test Area (MTA) is a facilty at Fermilab dedicated to the Muon Accelerator R&D. The facility designed for handling hydrogen, and also has an incoming 400MeV proton beamline from the Fermilab linac.

The MuCool collaboration is conducting R&D on components for muon ionization cooling, including magnets, RF cavities, absorbers and diagnostics. The collaboration also supports MICE.

The International Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE), being built at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), will be a demonstration of ionization cooling using a section of cooling channel from feasibility study II for a Neutrino Factory.
